ISWA Monthly Meeting

Call to Order:
Louis Rosbottom called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm.

§ Apryl presented the November minutes.
§ JD Minch made a motion to accept the minutes as presented.
§ Floyd Frieszell seconded the motion.
§ Motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer's Report: Renee Schoettle
§ Renee presented the Treasurer’s Report.
§ Renee is working on a more accurate breakdown account of coaches and athlete registration.
§ Mark Mundy made a motion to accept the report as presented.
§ John Schattner seconded the motion.
Old Business:
Camp and Housing (Cadet & Junior Nationals)
§ Chris Lynch reported via email that his research of hotels in Fargo concludes that the Country Inn or Suites by Carlson seem to be the best choice for the National Team for the upcoming summer trip.
§ Camp dates are set at Perry Meridian High School: Freestyle reports Saturday, June 7th and stay through Monday evening. Greco reports on the evening of Monday, June 9th, and stay through Wednesday. Wrestlers eat, sleep and practice at PMHS.
§ There was discussion about sending Cadets and Juniors to Fargo on the same day. Decided there was little cost savings and a risk with numbers in planning that far in advance.
Cadet & Junior Folkstyle National Trip
§ JD corresponded with Coach Humphrey, but nothing definite to report.
Assignment of Board Members to Regional Weigh-In Sites for Huntington: March 13th 6:30-8:30pm
§ Jeffersonville: Danny Struck

Women’s Wrestling Report
§ A flyer has been prepared to be mailed to all girl’s who have been and/or are ISWA members, to ISWA clubs, and will on posted on the ISWA website.
§ USA Women’s Folkstyle Nationals is scheduled for the same weekend in Oklahoma City, OK as the ISWA Folkstyle Tournament in Huntington.
§ Discussion to change Women’s Folkstyle State to the weekend of Kids Folkstyle State at Ben Davis in order to avoid the conflict with the national tournament.
§ Details will follow.

§ Mike Dowden has only received 7 nominations to date. Encouraged all board members to vote.
New Business:
Central Region Kids Meeting
§ Conference call will take place on December 12th. Contact Ed Pendoski, Kids Director, to see if he would like to participate.
Women’s Wrestling
§ Beth Lybarger presented a letter to mail to Indiana girls. Asked all to review and give input.
Directors Reports
§ Vice Chair of Administration – Tom Dolly
o Sports Medicine – Isaac Hook
§ Working with trainers for new upcoming season, and needs information on hotels in Huntington.
§ Also needs information on Ben Davis site for preparation and planning.
o Membership Director – Trina Dowden
§ Reported 615 athletes, 286 coaches, 98 clubs, and 76 sanctioned events to date for 2008.
§ Still working on collection efforts concerning bad debts.
o Director of Services – Sharon Dowden
§ The full tournament calendar is on the website.
§ Tournament packets are being prepared for club mailing.
§ The publication will go to the post office for mailing next Friday or Monday. Sharon disappointed in Sports Graphics for delaying the mailing.
§ ISWA bags are now available for new board members.
o Registration Director – Joe Lybarger
§ Working on preparing for Kids Folkstyle State at Ben Davis.
o Law & Legislation Director – Lana Pendoski
§ Not Present. No Report.
o Tournament Statistics Director – Carol Schroeder
§ Not Present.
§ Has received a package from Karen Miller and beginning to prepare for her new position.
o Transportation Director – John Schattner
§ Busses are scheduled and deposits have been made for upcoming trips.
§ Apryl will check with Beech Grove City Schools to see if we can use Beech Grove as pick up and drop off point for busses again this season.
§ Hotels are arranged for tournaments that the ISWA hosts.
§ John announced that he will begin a new job in April, and will probably resign his position with the ISWA after this year.
o Equipment Director – Bill Nicely
§ The design for the ISWA 30 year anniversary is complete and needs board shirt sizes.
o Hospitality Director – Linda Robinson

§ Has received a few calls from her section and is planning small pairings clinics.

o Mat Officials Developmental Director – Mark Mundy
§ Working on the officials clinic outline, which will be held the day after Kids Follkstyle State @ Ben Davis High School. Handouts are prepared.
§ Mark will be filling Floyd Frieszell’s role at Kids Folkstyle State and is working with Floyd on tournament preparation.
o Folkstyle Referees Developmental Director – Floyd Frieszell
§ Contracting with Folkstyle officials for Folkstyle State and needs mailing addresses from last year.
Pairing Officials Director – Jean Whetstone
§ Has contacted Justin with Track Wrestling concerning upcoming tournament set ups.
o Pairing Officials Developmental Director – Joe Downing
§ Working closely with Jean on tournament preparations.
o Scholarship Director – Sharon Rosbottom
§ Working on scholarship application mailing.
o State Coaches Director – Danny Struck
§ Letters have been mailed to Indiana college coaches inviting them to join the ISWA coaches pool.
§ Has copied clinic videos from the coach’s trip to Colorado and has sent these videos to the coaches who made the trip to Colorado.
§ Would like to offer a certification for coaches in weightlifting. USA Wrestling certifies through USA Weightlifting.
§ Reminder of the coaches committee meeting concerning coaches for upcoming trips to be held 1 hour prior to the start of the January meeting.
o Regional Training Center Director – Rex Peckinpaugh

o Cultural Exchange Director – Ed Wojdyla
§ Mike Dowden noted that Ed’s Mat Time article made national news reports.
§ Ed presented a proposal to the board for cultural exchange (international and domestic exchange split). Ed encouraged comments and recommendations about his proposal.
o Team Leader Director – Jeff McClurg
§ Building potential team leaders pool.
o Director – Ed Pendoski

o Cadet Director – Jake Harreld

o Junior Director – Cale Hoover

§ Working with Jake Harreld and Chris Lynch to finalize camp and hotel arrangements for the Cadet and Junior National trip.

o Greco Director – Mike Weimer
§ Not Present.
§ Reported via email that the US Greco-Roman Team is having great success. He is still in contact with Ike Anderson concerning any new information that pertains to Greco. He has also been placed on a mass email group where information pertaining to rule changes, weights, etc. is exchanged.
Women’s Director – Mike Goddard
§ Sending information to Judo coaches asking that they encourage women to participate in ISWA Women’s Wrestling.
§ Setting up some RTC’s just for women.
§ Wants to talk to more coaches about being open to women participating.
§ Discussion concerning women’s scores and team scoring.
§ Encourage IHSWCA and ISWA figureheads to work together.
o IN College Coach’s Rep – Kyle Fellure
§ Preparing to host Little State at UIndy
§ Will work with Danny on college coach’s applications for coach’s pool.
