ISWA Monthly Meeting
November 11, 2007
Call to Order:
Louis Rosbottom called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm.
Roll Call:
Board Members: Louis Rosbottom, Apryl McClurg, J.D. Minutes: Apryl McClurg
§ Apryl presented the October minutes.
§ Todd Eppert made a motion to accept the minutes as presented.
§ Floyd Frieszell seconded the motion.
§ Motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer's Report: Renee Schoettle
§ Renee presented the Treasurer’s Report.
§ Coach and athlete registration represent the only income to be reported at this time of year.
§ Mark Mundy made a motion to accept the report as presented.
§ Jake Harreld seconded the motion.
New Business:
State Coaches Director, Danny Struck, reported early so that he could attend a high school seeding meeting:
§ Ed Wojdyla, Bill Flatt, Jim Tonte, Chris Cooper, Mike Goddard and Danny Struck have returned
from the USA Wrestling Coaches Seminar held in Colorado.
§ Important opportunity for our representatives to network and represent the state of Indiana.
§ Each attendee will run 2 RTC’s and help with clinics throughout the year.
§ There will be a meeting held 1 hour before the January board meeting with the Coaches Selection Committee (Age Group Directors and Team Leader Director: Jeff McClurg, Ed Pendoski, Jake Harreld, Cale Hoover, Jim Humphrey, Mike Weimer, and Mike Goddard) to discuss coaches and team leader pools.
§ He is also sending letters of invitation to college coaches to join Indiana’s coaches pool for future trips.
Old Business:
Kids Folkstyle State Walk-Through
§ Todd Eppert reported that several board members met at Ben Davis High School on the morning of 11-11-07 and toured the facilities with Coach Moss.
§ It was a good walk-through and a good venue. Just need to figure out logistics.
§ Another walk-through will be scheduled for February 2008.
SchoolBoy/SchoolGirl/Junior Folkstyle State Regional Weigh-In Sites
§ Weigh-in sites were discussed and changes made for the publication.
§ We have secured 9 regional weigh-in sites to date.
§ ISWA board members in charge of individual sites are responsible for running the site and getting the information to Huntington.
Fargo 2008-Housing
§ Chris Lynch has been researching hotels in the Fargo area.
§ Cadet/Junior Camp will be held at Perry Meridian. Campers will workout and sleep at the school.
§ Discussion took place concerning meals, transportation, and staffing of coaches.
§ Need to start working on schedules and hotel reservations.
Publication
§ Sharon distributed 3 copies of the publication for review.
§ She made a few changes this year, which actually saved a few pages.
§ Good improvements overall. Celebrating the 30th Anniversary for the ISWA.
Folkstyle National Trip:
§ Tom Dolly asked about progess on the Cadet/Junior Folkstyle National Trip.
§ Tom is concerned about hotel reservations (options are limited and in high demand).
§ JD Minch will follow up with Folkstyle Director, Jim Humphrey. Cale Hoover and Jake Harreld to assist.
New Business:
John Hurrle Nominating Committee
§ John Hurrle Nominating Committee was appointed: Mike Dowden will chair the committee. Committee members are: John Schattner, Todd Eppert, Apryl McClurg, and Jake Harreld.
§ Ballots will be mailed in December.
§ Committee member meeting will be held in January.
30th Anniversary for the ISWA
§ How do we want to commemorate the 30th Anniversary? Brief discussion followed.
Directors Reports
§ Vice Chair of Administration – Tom Dolly
o Sports Medicine – Isaac Hook
§ Currently working on consistent guidelines for Folkstyle Regional Weigh-In Sites.
§ We will be following Indiana High School guidelines on skin checks. Information will be published in the Publication.
§ He has received inquiries from trainers who worked ISWA events last year. They want to work again in 2008.
o Membership Director – Trina Dowden
§ Reported 229 athletes, 81 coaches, 84 clubs, and 75 sanctioned events to date for 2008.
§ It will cost $60 paid to the collection agency to collect $2700 in outstanding debt.
§ Two clubs with outstanding balances will not be given cards to sell this year.
§ Website registrations are going well.
o Director of Services – Sharon Dowden
§ Reported that the number of 2008 open scheduled events are as follows:
· Folkstyle – 38 events
· Beginner’s Folkstyle – 6 events
· Freestyle – 19 events
· Greco – 11 events
· Women’s Freestyle – 5 events
o Registration Director – Joe Lybarger
§ Attended the walk-through at Ben Davis and preparing registration for state events.
o Law & Legislation Director – Lana Pendoski
§ Not Present. No Report.
o Tournament Statistics Director – Carol Schroeder
§ Not Present. No Report.
§ Files are being sent to Carol from Karen Miller.
o Transportation Director – John Schattner
§ Waiting on details in order to make additional hotel and transportation bookings.
§ Has hotel rooms reserved for Folkstyle State and Middle School Duals. Also has transportation booked for Middle School Duals.
o Equipment Director – Bill Nicely
§ Spoke on behalf of America’s Veterans and Veteran’s Day, which was well received by all attending! Thanks Bill!
§ Working on board shirts for 2008.
§ Brute is willing to make price adjustments if we can prove the sizing inconsistencies with the 2007 National singlets. Bill will be shipping examples to Brute.
o Hospitality Director – Linda Robinson
§ Not present. No report.
o Section 1 – Mark Galka
§ Not present.
§ Emailed report: Thank you for the position of Section 1 Director. He will continue to put in time and effort to promote ISWA Club wrestling in Northeast Indiana. He has secured the Wolves Wrestling Club in Boone Grove to be a satellite regional weigh-in site for Folkstyle State.
o Section 2 – Mary Friedt

o Section 3 – Beth Lybarger
§ In the process of mailing letters to the clubs in her section.
o Section 4 – Chris Lynch
§ Not Present.
§ Has been researching hotels in Fargo and working on national camp details.
o Section 5 – Corine Kendrick
§ Not Present. No Report.
§ Vice Chair of Programs – J.D. Minch
o Tournament Director – Facilities – Todd Eppert
§ Gave brief overview of the Ben Davis walk-through. He will be working on tournament details.
o Tournament Director – Staff – Patt Van Horn

o Mat Officials Developmental Director – Mark Mundy
§ Working on Officials Clinic/Annual Clinic planned for March 9th at Ben Davis High School (PeeWee thru Novice Folkstyle State).
§ This clinic is the day after Kids Folkstyle State @ Ben Davis High School. Hopefully, this will be a convenient time and date for many to attend.
o Folkstyle Referees Developmental Director – Floyd Frieszell
§ Contracting with Folkstyle officials for Folkstyle State.
§ Floyd will not be able to attend Kids Folkstyle State @ Ben Davis. He has made arrangements with Mark Mundy in his absence.
Pairing Officials Director – Jean Whetstone
§ Not Present. No Report.
o Pairing Officials Developmental Director – Joe Downing
§ Jean Whetstone and Joe will be working on numbers for the Kids Folkstyle State Tournament flow.
o Scholarship Director – Sharon Rosbottom
§ Preparing to mail out scholarship applications to clubs.
o State Coaches Director – Danny Struck
§ Made his report earlier in the meeting.
o Regional Training Center Director – Rex Peckinpaugh
§ Working on northern sites for RTC’s.
o Cultural Exchange Director – Ed Wojdyla
§ Excited about his position on the board.
§ Has experience with USJA (Judo) cultural exchange, and has traveled.
§ Ed will present ideas at a future meeting.
§ Louis Rosbottom expressed that the ISWA would like to keep the Japan Cultural Exchange Trip active. Indiana will host Japan in 2008.
o Team Leader Director – Jeff McClurg
§ Jeff asked for clarification on staff for the Cadet/Junior Folkstyle National Trip: 5 adults (4 coaches and one team leader). Projecting 32 wrestlers.
o Director – Ed Pendoski
§ Not Present. No Report.
o Cadet Director – Jake Harreld
§ Working with Cale Hoover on national trip and camp changes.
§ Will be talking to Chris Lynch about hotel reservations in Fargo.
o Junior Director – Cale Hoover
§ Not Present.
§ Working with Jake Harreld and Chris Lynch on national trip and camp changes.
o Folkstyle Director – Jim Humphrey
§ Not Present. No Report.
o Greco Director – Mike Weimer
§ Not Present.
§ Attended the IHSWCA meeting and spent a great deal of time with Ike Anderson.
Women’s Director – Mike Goddard
§ Not present. No report.
§ Beth Lybarger reported that the Girl’s Camp has been scheduled at Franklin Community High School for June 13-15.
§ Beth would like to see girls paired and wrestle on one mat at state events.
o IN College Coach’s Rep – Kyle Fellure
§ Not Present. No Report.
o SchoolBoy Dual Nationals has secured Warren Central High School to host again in 2008. Dave Fleming will be the contact.
o Mike Dowden needs to meet with some board members after the meeting.
