ISWA Annual Meeting

Call to Order:

Mike Dowden called the meeting to order at 10:40 am.

Minutes: Apryl McClurg

§        Mike Dowden presented the August minutes.

§        John Schattner and Mark Durham noted 2 corrections to the minutes.

§        Mike Goddard made a motion to accept the minutes as ammended.

§        Floyd Frieszell seconded the motion.

§        Motion passed unanimously.

 

Treasurer's Report: Louis Rosbottom

§        Louis presented the Budget 2006-2007 year end report.

§        Todd Eppert made a motion to accept the financial reports.

§        Motion seconded by Tom Dolly.

§        Motion passed unanimously.

 

Old Business:

§        Presentation of National Award

o       Mike Introduced Beth Lybarger who presented the ISWA with the 7th place plaque earned by Indiana’s Women’s National Team in Fargo this past July.  The team consisted of 9 women.  Two women also earned All-American status.

§        2007 Awards were presented to the following:

o       Coach of the Year:  Chris Cooper and Jim Tonte

o       Pairing Person of the Year:  Joe Downing

o       Freestyle Official of the Year:  Tim Federspiel

o       Brandon Whaley Young Official of the Year:  Jon Osborne

o       Folkstyle Official of the Year:  James Littlejohn

o       Volunteer of the Year:  Jim Osborne

o       Club of the Year:  Team Jeff

§        Nominating Committee:

o       Ronnie Hutchison, committee chair, presented the slate of officers based on the ballots received.

o       Nominations from the floor were requested.  Hearing none, the slate of officers was unanimously approved.

 

§        Honorary Award Presentations:

o       JD Minch and Tom Dolly honored Mike Dowden for his years of service and dedication to the ISWA as Mike Dowden’s retirement was announced.  Mike received a standing ovation.

o       Louis Rosbottom and JD Minch introduced Sharon Dowden as the USA Wrestling Woman of the Year.  The award was bestowed up Sharon this past wrestling season.

§        Audit Committee Report:

o       The appointed Audit Committee examined the treasurer’s records and files and found everything to be in order.

§        2007-2008 Budget:

o       Louis Rosbottom explained the purchase of computer equipment and copier this past year.

o       The new budget has added increased assistance to athletes.

o       Coaches education budget has also been increased.

o       RTC planning educational material directed toward kids and the education of coaches.

o       Todd Eppert made a motion to approve the budget as presented.

o       Mark Mundy Seconded the motion.

o       The motion passed unanimously.

o       Mike Dowden encouraged everyone to read through the Treasurer’s Report and Budget to understand how the money flows through the organization.

 

New Business

§        USA Wrestling Changes in Policies and Procedures:

o       Schoolboy/girl weights have been changed.

o       National Duals entry fees have increased $250 per team.  This money will stay with the hosting organization, which will help offset the expenses.

o       A forfeit for a “no show” will no longer take the wrestler out of the tournament.  It will be a loss with the winner receiving 5 points.

o       The dual team seeding criteria has been changed.

o       Before each dual meet, the head coach must appoint one person/coach to talk to the head official at the table.

§        Online Registration for Indiana:

o       Athlete and coaches cards can now be purchased online.  It is a link to paypal with a $5 processing fee.  The total cost will be $35 for each card.  The waiver and code of conduct is included.

o       The printed confirmation can be used until the card is received from the ISWA office.  Birthdate validation (sticker) will be completed at a local tournament.  If challenged, awards will be held until proof of birth.

o       If card is lost, use the temporary card process.  Temporary cards are NOT available online.  There will be no refund if a 2nd card is purchased online, because the card has been lost.

o       Club is a required field. ISWA still strongly encourages all athletes to sign-up and purchase a card through their local club.

o       Looking for ways to pay other fees online (i.e.: trip costs).

§        Insurance Coverage:

o       Insurance representative could not attend our meeting, but Louis Rosbottom has met with insurance rep.

o       Background checks have been pushed back one year.

o       Paperwork/waivers are very important for individuals and clubs.  Turning this paperwork in on a timely basis is crucial.  These change the percentages of favorable claims.

§        Number of Awards – State Finals (6 or 8):

o       We presently award 8 places, which creates pairing issues with the Track Wrestling software where special bouts are concerned.

o       A discussion took place concerning a policy change to begin placing 6 at state tournaments.

o       No motion was made.  We will continue to place 8 at state tournaments.

§        Make Folkstyle Tournaments Qualifiers:

o       A motion was made on the floor to make local Folkstyle tournaments qualifiers for Pee Wee through Novice wrestlers beginning in the 2008 season.

o       The motion was seconded.

o       Discussion took place regarding the proposed change.

o       There was a call for the question.

o       Call for the question was seconded.

o       The motion did not carry with 13 in favor and 36 opposed.  Motion defeated.

Directors Reports

 

§        Vice Chair of Administration – Tom Dolly

o       Sports Medicine – Isaac Hook

§        Isaac is available to help local tournaments provide trainers.

§        Working on clarification of skin check rules. Report in submitted in the Annual Report Handbook.

§        Report in the Annual Report Handbook.

o       Membership Director – Trina Dowden

§        A decrease of 300 in membership this past year.

§        New online registration for 2007-2008. 

§        Cards will NOT be sold at local tournaments after April 6, 2008.

§        Still have a few clubs with outstanding athlete cards.  Clubs are financially responsible for cards.

§        Please do not hold paperwork and checks.  Paperwork should be turned in 2 weeks after selling a card, so that insurance coverage is valid.

§        Club packets picked up by clubs at this meeting. 

§        Thanks to clubs who are using the database.

o       Director of Services – Sharon Dowden

§        It was decided at the State Summit Meeting that USA Wrestling will begin to sanction Grappling Events.

o       Registration Director – Duane Hutchison

§        Thanks to all volunteers in registration this past year.

o       Law & Legislation Director – Lana Pendoski

o       Tournament Statistics Director – Karen Miller

§        Looking for an adult assistant for hospitality at all state and national events.

o       Tournament Director – Facilities – Todd Eppert

§        Both Todd and Patt stressed that table help is a requirement of every club.  Please talk to your club and recruit 8 people to rotate in and out of table help at state tournaments this year.  They are available to assist with training.

o       Mat Officials Developmental Director – Mark Mundy

§        Disappointed in the number of officials that worked tournaments this past year.

§        Clubs are required to provide officials, and we have 180 clubs. 

§        Mark is available to help with the training of officials and would like to see an increase in volunteer officials in order to make tournaments run more smoothly.

o       Folkstyle Referees Developmental Director – Floyd Frieszell

§        Contracting officials in Folkstyle helped immensely with the conduct of athletes and coaches this past year.
