Indiana's very own mat official was awarded one of the events most prestigious official award.  Indiana had a great showing this weekend at the 2023 Heartland Duals. In addition to the team honors, Jared Curcio was selected as Outstanding Official of the Tournament from over 50 officials, as voted on by the coaches.

Congratulations to Team Indiana Gold Middle School for placing first place making Indiana HISTORY!

Women's Results:

Heartland Duals 2023 took place March 23-26 in Council Bluffs Iowa at the Mid American Center. Doug Strayer was the team leader for the K-8 girls division.
Overall, it was a great experience for everyone. The team placed 6th out of 14 teams, losing 3 duals to two teams. We lost our opening dual to the defending champions (Minnesota Storm) on Saturday. Then we rallied, winning five consecutive duals the first day.
First day results were:
Indiana vs Minnesota storm- L 16-37
Indiana vs Nebraska Red- W 52-12
Indiana vs Utah 1- W 50-15
Indiana vs Oregon- W 38-33
Indiana vs Kansas 2- 31-25
Indiana vs Texas Red- W 39-33

Our successful rally put us in the Diamond Pool for the placement rounds on day two.
We had a tough draw starting the second day Wrestling Iowa USAW. We lost that dual 40-16.
Our second round was a rematch against Oregon, with our girls battling for a close 38-36 win.
Our final placement match for 5th/6th was against the Minnesota Storm. Our team was very young and tired, losing 12-48

Our roster was:
58- Grace Harris
65- Grace Nedelsky
73- Rebel Silcox
82- Ella Neibert
89- Onica Gradless
97- Corabella Wesley
102- Cierra Lear
109- Kynlie Keffer
117- Ava Strayer
126- Hope Senteney
138- Rhaigyn Trenary
150- Ella Morris
165- Sophia Gropp

We had one undefeated All American in Ella Niebert. Because we made it into the Diamond pool, we were allowed two Outstanding Wrestler awards. Those honors went to Ella Neibert (undefeated) and Grace Nedelsky (second most team points scored)

The staff consisted of the following:
Team Leader- Doug Strayer
Coach- Cameron Harris
Coach- Brian Wesley
I would like to mention that Rob Lear was our table worker all weekend and I would like to thank the ISWA Women’s Wrestling Director Jason Delois, for all his help in coordinating and helping me plan this trip.
