Dear Coach,

Please find a document you can use to help new wrestlers and parents understand what's going on in a high school wrestling match. I found it helpful to pass out to the team and leave a stack at the entrance of the gym during tournaments or hand out to parents at team meetings. Please feel free to make copies and distribute. Please let me know if you have any questions or actually decide to use this as a tool to promote the sport. Any feedback is appreciated.

This email is sponsored by the new wrestling movie titled Beyond the Mat. As many of you may be aware I have been an advocate for our sport in Hollywood by writing, directing, producing and consulting on a variety of projects that feature the sport of wrestling . A few projects I have worked on include Nike and ADIDAS commercials, the feature film Legendary starring John Cena on Netflix, the documentary about John Trenge titled Veritas, the short film UnderDOG, the Disney movie Spooner and a few more.... Beyond the mat is my latest project. It took over 10 years to make and it's finally ready for theaters! We could not have made the movie without the wrestling community coming together! Several schools and coaches came through and offered their support including Schurr HS, South El Monte HS, El Monte HS, Don Bosco HS, North Torrance HS, Cerritos College, Rio Hondo College, Whittier College, Santa Monica HS, Santa Fe HS, East LA College, Bakersfield HS, Cerritos HS, Rosemead HS and many more. We have received support from many organizations including Takedown Radio, USA Wrestling, TheMat.com, Beat the Streets, WWE wrestling, TNA Wrestling, the National High School Coaches Association,  California Interscholastic Federation, WIN Magazine, KROQ Radio, ESPN Radio, Radio Disney, ASICS Athletics, Grapple Gear Athletics, The Lions Den, and more! This project is a true independent film but it looks like a million bucks! We cant wait to share it with you!

About Beyond the Mat

Set against the backdrop of a suburban high school in Middle America, Beyond the Mat is the coming-of-age tale of Aaron Miller. Amidst the struggle of a disintegrating friendship, the tormenting of a cross-town wrestling rival and the blossoming of a new love, Aaron is forced to come to terms with who he really is. Aaron's friendship is put on the line when best friend Bo, blinded by the desire for a rematch against cross-town wrestling rival Dominic, robs Aaron of his spot on the varsity wrestling team. Aaron is torn between his loyalty to his friend and his commitment to his sport. Fueled by the desire to succeed and the need to prove himself, Aaron embarks on a journey of self-discovery. At times, Aaron's struggles on the mat mirror his struggles in daily life. His wrestling encounters are a physical manifestation of his emotional struggle, a metaphor for what he is going through. When things take a turn for the worse, Aaron is forced to set aside his guilt and put things into perspective. The drama culminates in an explosive finale at the State Wrestling Championship where more than just pride is on the line. It's a tale about two best friends, a chronicle about minority experiences in America, an uncensored look into the perilous world of high school wrestling and ultimately the story of a teen who overcomes self-doubt to find his true self.
